Esophagus

The esophagus is defined as a muscular tube that has an important role in the digestive system. The tube extends from the pharynx, behind the throat, to the rib cage and through the neck until it reaches the diaphragm and then the stomach. The food is then digested and absorbed into the stomach. The esophagus’ muscle works in a unique way through which the various types of food are delivered to the stomach for digestion and are then absorbed into the intestines.
